Long period of time and Evolution

Is it possible to combine the Bible and evolution? Did God use evolution as part of His creative process?
The model of Macro Evolution demands long period of time, it requires billions of years. Long ages thus become the foundation of evolution. Chemical Evolution and Stellar Evolution in Macro Evolution needs long ages.
What were the days of creation mentioned in Genesis chapter one? Were the day twenty-four hour days or can they be interpreted in Billions of years? How can we know for sure? To arrive at an informed answer we need to examine the Bible. We cannot start with our current understanding of science to force an interpretation of the Bible. Why? Because our understanding of science is constantly modified. What we once believed as true about evolution has been altered by new discoveries. The age of the earth over the last century has more than tripled.
