The Lineage of Jesus

1) Prophecy: Seed of a woman
Old Testament Reference: Genesis 3:1-15
New Testament Reference: Galatians 4:4

  Genesis 3:14-15

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all the livestock
    and all the wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust
    all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
    and you will strike his heel.”

 Galatians 4:4
But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law,

2) Prophecy: From the Tribe of Judah
Old Testament Reference: Genesis 49:10
New Testament Reference: Luke 3:23,33

 Genesis 49:10
 The scepter will not depart from Judah,
    nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,
until he comes to whom it belongs
    and the obedience of the nations is his.

 Luke 3:23,33
 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli,.....he son of Amminadab, the son of Ram,  the son of Hezron, the son of Perez,
the son of Judah."

3) Prophecy:  Descendant of Abraham, Issac and Jacob
Old Testament Reference: Genesis 12:3, 17:17,19; Number 24:17
New Testament Fulfillment: Matthew 1:1-2,16; Luke 3:34,38

 Genesis 12:3
 I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you.”
 
Genesis 17:17,19
  Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?”...Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

 Numbers 24:17
 “I see him, but not now;
    I behold him, but not near.
A star will come out of Jacob;
    a scepter will rise out of Israel.
He will crush the foreheads of Moab,
    the skulls of all the sons of Sheth."

 Luke 3:34,38
 "the son of Jacob,
the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham,
the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,....
 the son of Enosh,
the son of Seth, the son of Adam,
the son of God."

4) Prophecy: Heir to the Throne of David
Old Testament Reference: Isaiah 9:6-7
New Testament Fulfillment: Luke 1:31-32

 Isaiah 9:6-7
 For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given,
    and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
 Of the increase of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
    from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

 Luke 1:31-32
 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,

5) Prophecy: Anointed and Eternal
Old Testament Reference: Psalm 45:6-7
New Testament Reference: Hebrews 1:8-10

Psalm 45:6-7
 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
    therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
    by anointing you with the oil of joy.

 Hebrews 1:8-10
  But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
    and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
    therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
    by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
 He also says,
“In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands.
