Is any one Gospel "approved" by Jesus? Why four Gospels?

No single Gospel was "approved" by Jesus, all four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are testimonies of Jesus' life and teachings. Three writers (Matthew, Mark and John) were companions to Jesus for portions of His life.

Each writer is presenting a different aspect of Jesus' character. Jesus is represented in Matthew (written to the Jewish nation waiting for their Messiah) as King; in Mark (written to the Roman world of Mark's day) as the servant; in Luke (written as a Greek doctor) as the perfect man and John (written by an eyewitness to the death and resurrection of Jesus) as the Son of God. Jesus prophesied about the spreading of the Gospel seventeen times (Matthew 24:14, Matthew 26:13, Mark 8:35, Luke 21:33, and Acts 1:6-18). Jesus gave assurance that the Holy Spirit would guide their writing (Luke 12:12, John 14:26, John 16:13 and Acts 1:8).
