This area was for philosophers and soothsayers whose purpose was the study of mathematics and astrology. Which they pretended to foretell the destiny of men. They studied the sky for future knowledge.
Abram needed to follow the Lord and reject the sinful ideas. Mankind needs to reject the sinful nature and follow God.
God wanted to bless Abram but Abram pondered this idea. God's plan is greater than our thoughts.
God needs to increase our faith. We need to be pure before the Lord. The Old Testament had a sacrificial system. So Abram brought a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.
Abram was making a pact with the Lord. He cut the heifer, goat and a ram but he didn't cut the birds.
Then Abram slept before he completed the sacrifice.
God started the sacrifice and finished the sacrifice. The significant of this is that it is a forever pact with Abram. God will keep this pact.
God will give the land of Israel to the Jews and the Gentiles that follow the God of the Bible.
Mankind was weak and deserve hell. Jesus went from heaven to earth so mankind would be forgiven.
He lived a perfect life and died on the cross. He conquered death. If a person accept Jesus then that person will be forgiven. They will have a new heart to follow the Lord. The Holy Spirit will live in the heart of the follower of Jesus.
Genesis 15:7-12
7 He also said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”
8 But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”
9 So the Lord said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”
10 Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half. 11 Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.
12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.
