Okay, history tea time. Let’s talk about Charles Darwin—yes, that Darwin. While his ideas on evolution shaped modern science, he also had some wildly outdated views on women. In The Descent of Man, Darwin argued that men had higher “eminence” and stronger mental powers than women. Translation: he believed men were intellectually superior. Yikes.
Before anyone says “it was a different time,” sure—but ideas still have consequences, especially when they’re treated like facts instead of opinions.
God’s Image ≠ Tier List
The Bible comes in hot with a very different worldview.
Genesis 1:27 says that both men and women are created in the image of God. Not men first-class, women economy. Equal image. Equal worth.
Acts 17:29 backs this up by reminding us that humanity reflects God’s nature—not something divided by gender hierarchies. If we’re all image-bearers, then claiming one sex is mentally superior doesn’t really hold up.
Equality Is the Point, Actually
Fast-forward to the New Testament and the message gets even clearer.
Galatians 3:28 straight-up says there is no hierarchy between male and female in terms of value and standing. Gender isn’t a ranking system. Everyone belongs. Everyone matters.
That’s a huge contrast to ideas that place men above women intellectually or socially.
When Ideas Go Too Far 🚩
Here’s where things get serious. When evolutionary ideas are applied consistently without moral boundaries, they’ve historically been used to justify sexism and even slavery. If “survival of the fittest” becomes a moral rule instead of a biological observation, then people start deciding who’s “more evolved” or “more valuable.” That never ends well.
The Bible is crystal clear on this too.
1 Timothy 1:10 lists enslaving people alongside sins like murder and adultery—calling it repugnant to God. No loopholes. No justifications.
Final Thoughts (aka the Takeaway)
You can respect scientific discoveries and still critique the flawed philosophies attached to them. Darwin’s contributions to biology don’t excuse his sexist assumptions. And history shows us that when ideas deny equality, real people get hurt.
Gen Z gets this:
Equality isn’t optional.
Human worth isn’t earned.
And any worldview—scientific or otherwise—that leads to oppression deserves to be challenged.
Period. 💬✨
